Trinitas Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) is the designated Screening Center for Union County. PES operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week with a psychiatrist available at all times. The goal of the psychiatric ER is to provide clinical assessment and crisis stabilization for children, adolescents and adults to determine the most clinically appropriate and least restrictive plan for continued care.
When a consumer enters the Screening Center, they are triaged by a Registered Nurse and then the clinical team, comprised of the psychiatrist, nurse, and a certified psychiatricscreener, conducts a comprehensive assessment to determine the most appropriate disposition. PES can make referrals for community-based services or, when appropriate, facilitate voluntary and involuntary hospitalization. TRMC has a full continuum of Mental Health and Addiction services for all ages, located on the same campus as PES. It allows referrals to be made easily for those consumers referred for outpatient services. PES also has 7 extended crisis stabilization beds in the screening center, which allows consumers to be held for up to 24 hours for observation and stabilization.
Our team also includes peer supports and volunteer family specialists to provide support and education about the screening process and to provide follow-up contact after the screening to encourage continuation of services.
A certified psychiatric screener is also based in the medical emergency room at Williamson Street to provide assessment and crisis intervention services for consumers who are being treated for acute medical needs, in consultation with the PES screening psychiatrist. Mobile Outreach screeners are also available 24/7 to see consumers in the community for crisis assessment and to determine if someone meets the criteria to be transported for further evaluation at PES.
